Burden of infectious diseases and strategies of prevention

Plenty of literature exists regarding the burden of infectious diseases and the distinctions within low-income countries and high-income countries that result in different burden levels and spread of the condition. This chapter aims at focus on three specific infectious conditions; influenza, tuberculosis, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) due to the varying burden within countries with economic differences. Furthermore, it discusses key strategies used for mitigation and prevention of infectious diseases with the understanding that globalization has left the world vulnerable to faster spread of infectious diseases, making it even more crucial now than ever before to understand measures that can be used and how to effectively reduce the spread.
