Due to climate change, extreme weather events have been more frequent and intense. Prenatal exposure to disasters is strongly associated with increased risks of chronic diseases, including asthma and allergies. Although the gut microbiota in early life has been suggested as a mechanism underlying this phenomenon, the gut microbiome of infants who are exposed in utero to an extreme weather event has not been characterized.
