A New Arc Flux Modulated Machine with Hybrid Permanent Magnet Arrangement

This paper proposes a new arc flux modulated machine with hybrid permanent magnet (PM) arrangement (HPM-AFMM) for drive of large-diameter telescopes. The proposed HPM-AFMM using hybrid PM arrangements can perform the double flux-modulation effect to increase torque density. The proposed HPM-AFMM combines the flux modulated PM machine and arc PM machine, which incorporates the benefits of high torque density, strong robustness and low cost. The structure and the operation principle of the HPM-AFMM are presented. The electromagnetic performances of HPM-AFMM are comprehensively investigated using finite element analysis.
