摘要
A considerable number of youths suffer from anxiety problems that may cause impairment in psychosocial functioning and development. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a well-established and effective treatment for youth anxiety. However, access to treatment is limited. There are barriers to seeking mental health services causing longtime delays between onset of anxiety and access to treatment. Furthermore, of those accessing treatment, few receive CBT. By making CBT available at schools, we may reach youths in their natural environment and thereby increase access to effective mental health interventions. Barriers to seeking help may be overcome, and effective help may be accessed at an earlier stage. Reviews have found that anxiety-focused school-based CBT interventions are effective. We present a recent school-based prevention trial with adolescents with anxiety. Methods, procedures, and implementation strategies for the indicated prevention intervention are described, as well as finding showing reduced anxiety, lower depressive symptoms, and less impairment due to anxiety after the intervention as well as at 1-year follow-up.
