Novel light coupling structure for excitation of whispering gallery modes in microsphere resonators based on an etched PMMA capillary

A novel approach to excitation of whispering gallery modes in microsphere resonators is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. The proposed structure realizes light coupling through the circular peripheral contact between the microsphere and supporting capillary wall.
