Environmental impacts of syngas

The quest for clean and low-cost fuel alternatives to fossil fuels is a vital focus within the energy and environmental sectors. In this regard, syngas production and its conversion to a wide range of productions have attracted attention. Although the synthesis gas is considered as a clean fuel that converts the main greenhouse gases (CO2 and CH4) to useful productions, it should be noted that some environmental contaminations can be produced in various routes. Thus, this chapter elaborates on the conventional technologies and novel methods such as plasma and photocatalysis techniques to produce syngas from an environmental prospect. Moreover, the environmental challenges of converting syngas to various products are discussed.
