Abstract
In this paper, a waveform design method for random stepped frequency radars (RSFR) to achieve the ultra-low side-lobes in its high resolution range profile (HRRP) is proposed. The randomly distributed modulated frequencies of RSFR make it possible to synthesize the wide-band to generate the HRRP. Meanwhile, the HRRP side-lobes can be significantly suppressed by arranging the modulated frequency with the window type distribution. Simulations show that the proposed method can achieve similar side-lobe level as the windowed linear stepped frequency radar, but without causing the output signal power loss. This is beneficial to improve the probability of target detection.
