Role of Artificial Intelligence and Neural Network in the Health-Care Sector

Artificial Intelligence is the branch of computer through which a machine can think the same as a human. It is true that no artificial intelligence can perform a wide actuality of jobs that an ordinary human can do. Artificial intelligence matches with some particular tasks or jobs of humans. Neural networks are mathematical models which use learning algorithms inspired by brains to store information. Since neural networks are used in machines, they are collectively called an artificial neural network. Integrating AI with health-care sectors gives huge benefits, like better and faster health system support, automating task, lower cost, AI-driven tools that help reveal early disease risks, AI support for mental health, etc. Although there are vast verities of benefits of integrating AI within health-care sectors, there are some drawbacks as well. The drawbacks include rise of unemployment in health-care workers, possibility of defective diagnosis, social prejudices, lack of personal involvement, etc. ANN has been used in the health-care sector for several decades. ANN can be used to detect heart and cancer problems, to analyze urine and blood samples, to analyze medical images, to develop drugs, etc. “According to Insider Intelligence, 30% of health-care costs are associated with administrative tasks. AI can automate some of these tasks, like pre-authorizing insurance, following-up on unpaid bills, and maintaining records, to ease the workload of healthcare professionals and ultimately save them money.” In this chapter, we are going to introduce artificial intelligence, neural network, the advantages of AI and ANN in the health-care sector, the disadvantages of AI and ANN in the health-care sector, various techniques using AI in the health-care sector, literature survey, and examples of AI used in healthcare, and finally, we draw a conclusion.
