Supporting and assessing professional agency of student teachers in initial teacher education

Departing from the “learning professional” model, this article shows how teacher agency has gained importance in today's educational context by introducing different conceptualizations of teacher agency. I elaborate more extensively on the ecological model of agency and discuss how to support student teachers across different dimensions of this model. The article will end with a brief overview how student teacher agency has been investigated and assessed in an initial teacher education context in previous studies.
