Technology-enhanced collaborative learning in STEM

Collaborative learning has been well-embraced in STEM education for years. It has been renewed and extended by modern technologies. This article focuses on examples of empirical research to illustrate the different functions played by technologies in facilitating collaborative learning in STEM education. The different functions include connecting learners across space, fostering group written discourses, guiding collaborative processes, and promoting collective knowledge. These examples also illustrate that technology-enhanced collaborative learning (TECL) keeps evolving with the latest technology, including multimodal tools, virtual reality, and machine learning. The article also provides examples to present the assessment of TECL in STEM education.
