Educating a world on the move: rethinking teacher preparation in the context of mass global migration and increasingly diverse classrooms

Many countries are receiving newcomers who are challenging prevailing notions of teaching all. We offer insight into teacher preparation for increasing newcomer students, through three mini case studies that examine: (1) Turkey which hosts the largest number of refugees worldwide; (2) community-based teachers working with immigrant students; (3) immigrant teachers who teach immigrant students. Together they tell a story of teacher preparation for immigrant students from the vantage point of teachers, the students they serve, and the system in which they work. Our article offers recommendations for practice and concludes with a cross case analysis, enabling larger principles to emerge.
