A Bio-Inspired Array Skylight Compass for Urban Ground Navigation

To achieve high-precision heading acquisition, a new bio-inspired array skylight compass was designed based on the symmetry of atmospheric polarization mode. The compass is mainly composed of an array polarization imaging chip and a low-power computing core unit, which can directly calculate the orientation in real time. In addition, we design an efficient polarization orientation algorithm by extracting the meridian and querying the solar ephemeris. The results show that the designed skylight compass has good orientation accuracy and robustness in a variety of experimental environments.
