Measurement and Compensation of Springback – A Comprehensive Review

Occurrence of springback in sheet metal forming is unavoidable. Depending on the application, the amount of springback can influence the part acceptance. Thus, it is crucial to understand the pattern, control factors, and compensation methods for springback in metal-formed parts and components. In this chapter, a comprehensive review of springback measurements and compensation is presented. First, the types of bending processes that are prone to springback problems will be described, followed by explanations on the fundamentals, definitions, and categorization of springback. Then, the measurements of springback will be presented, including the methods, tools, and parameters that influence its occurrence. Finally, the techniques for compensation of springback, inclusive of the latest approach and procedures, will be illustrated. The review ends with recommendations for future works.
