Abstract
The reduction of power consumption for making the process more efficient is the focal point of interest and research in today’s manufacturing industry. The use of microwave energy has widely been used in the field of sintering, cladding, and joining processes. However, its use in the field of casting has not been explored for different kinds of metallic materials. Microwave casting has several advantages over the traditional casting method such as reduced processing time, uniform bulk volumetric heating, improved mechanical properties, and improved microstructures. This chapter illustrates the various developments made in the timeline for casting with microwave energy. The possibilities and challenges in the direction of microwave casting are given in brief to identify potential parameters for the casting of different metallic materials.
