Abstract
•The microstructure of Loess of the Ebro Valley is manly affected by two processes: compaction by freeze–thaw or weight load and the bioturbation.•The bioturbation structures are presents during the most stable periods.•Carbonates and gypsum act as cementing agents, providing stability in the Loess structure.
