Embedding business skills through the Bioscience placement year

In this chapter we will explore the student journey relating to the placement year from both the staff and student point of view. With input from academic colleagues and those in professional services, we will highlight how non-business students are encouraged to take up business placements and the skills and experiences they gain from these. Furthermore, we will discuss the opportunities provided by overseas placements, both in a business context but, importantly, also study abroad which enables students to take modules outside of their discipline, often in business. Finally, we will discuss the positive outcomes for our students in gaining employment outside of their degree discipline using the multidisciplinary skills and knowledge developed through the placement year.
