Today, fabrication of biocompatible and eco-friendly nanostructures are receiving immense scientific interest due to their unique physicochemical properties, excellent stability, and amazing ability to carry a payload of desired drug to target sites. The 12 principles of green chemistry act as key players to configure nanomaterials syntheses approaches. Besides plant- and explant-based approaches, microorganisms have gained huge importance due to their multifaceted benefits in nanomaterial synthesis. The microorganisms as whole cell, their indigenous bioactive metabolites and extracellularly produced organic compounds/scaffolds are interestingly amalgated with green chemistry landscape efficiently. This chapter presents an overview of a wide range of microorganisms, which fundamentally can act as green solvents, biotemplates, and biofactories in nanomaterials synthesis.
