In Vivo Cellular Magnetic Imaging: Labeled versus Unlabeled Cells (Adv. Funct. Mater. 50/2022)
Advanced Functional Materials(2022)
Abstract
Cell Tracking In article number 2207626, Jeff W.M. Bulte, Chao Wang, and Ali Shakeri-Zadeh review the occasional adverse effects encountered with magnetic labeling of cells for in vivo cell tracking using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic particle imaging. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are abundant in mannose residues on their cell membrane. Using mannose-sensitive chemical exchange saturation transfer MRI, in vivo tracking of MSCs is now possible without the need of labeling them, facilitating clinical translation.
