High-strength and recyclable pure chitosan films manufactured by an ionic liquid assisted roll-forming method

•Chitosan demonstrates promising potential for recyclable electronic substrates.•The film exhibits remarkable strength of 53 MPa and high transmittance of 90.15%.•This chitosan film is directly manufactured by a roll-forming method.•The plasticizer ionic liquid can be recycled.
