Rotating Savings and Credit Associations: A Scoping Review

•This formal scoping review analyzed the research in ROSCAs from 2000 to 2022.•96 articles met the criteria for inclusion; most of them are case studies that use statistical and regression analysis from data acquired through surveys and qualitative analysis of interviews.•ROSCAs have provided financial benefits to their participants by encouraging them to save money.•Non-financial benefits of ROSCAs include social capital improvement and empowerment of several communities.•Promoting altruism, reciprocity, and participation in several ROSCAs at the same time would minimize the effect of defection and default.
