Determination of genetic changes of Rev-erb beta and Rev-erb alpha genes in Type 2 diabetes mellitus by next-generation sequencing

•Twentysix rare variations were found in the Rev-erb genes, 9 of which were novel.•Six common variations with metabolic effects were found in Rev-erb genes.•Variations of Rev-erb genes may have diverse effect on metabolic parameters in T2DM.•The effects of SNPs in Rev-erb genes may vary depending on gender and obesity.
