Abstract
Fatigue performance of asphalt mixture has been tested through different types of loading modes, including the uniaxial tension (UT), uniaxial compression (UC), and indirect tension (IDT) modes. However, fatigue test results from different modes are found to be dissimilar. This research aimed to develop a unique fatigue law suitable for different loading modes, using the Miller yield criterion. First, the strength and fatigue behaviors of asphalt mixture under UT, UC, and IDT modes were compared and discussed. Then, the strength yield surfaces and stress paths were obtained by the Miller yield criterion. Finally, a new stress ratio indicator was proposed to generate a unified fatigue law of asphalt mixtures that are suitable for different loading modes. The findings in this research are expected to provide references for deriving the fundamental fatigue damage law for the asphalt mixture based on the strength yield criterion.
