Abstract
After several years of development work the existing routines of our joint across-country genetic and genomic evaluations were replaced by Single-Step models for all traits for the dual-purpose breeds Simmental and Brown- Swiss in April 2021. Since then, Single-Step genomic breeding values are the officially published estimates for the two breeds. In this -review article, we give an overview of the scientific work preceding these developments, the organization of workflows within our joint evaluation cooperation and the associated framework that was relevant for the development of our applications. We summarize some characterizing aspects of the Single-Step evaluation for production traits and for the joint model for somatic cell-score and milkability and present some figures on system sizes. We conclude with a short discussion of some theoretical aspects related to observations made during the latest experiences with the routine application of the new system and try to give an outlook on potential future developments of our evaluation system.
