Abstract
•Detailed supercritical hydrothermal-geochemical model of basalt-water is validated.•Mineral solid solutions were assumed ideal and reacted stoichiometrically.•Model dissolution rates agreed with published parameters, coupled with the RSA estimates used.•Better agreement between model precipitation rates and use of dissolution rates extended to precipitation.•The model provided insights into the alteration process.
