•Ubiquinol nanoform has moderately reduced lung schistosomula and adult worm burden.•Ubiquinol has an equivalent potency to PZQ regarding tissue egg and granuloma load.•Ubiquinol was superior to PZQ regarding granuloma size and pathological sequels.•Ubiquinol nanoform gave variable immunofluorescence reactivity of parasitic stages.•Ubiquinol nanoform induced ultrastructural changes of the tegument and genitalia.
