Analysis of Ergonomic Aspects in the Surgery Field: Surgeons’ Appraisals

Many studies have specifically addressed work-related musculoskeletal disorders and musculoskeletal injuries associated with surgery. These are caused by the postures imposed by the positioning of the patient, usually, maintained or forced postures, which cause a high percentage of surgeons to suffer pain or discomfort during surgery, generating ailments derived from this. To ascertain the ergonomic risks that surgeons face in an operating room. A survey has been developed within Spanish territory. 96.9% of the surgeons surveyed consider that the ailments are caused by posture adopted during the operation. The neck, 38%, the back, 53%, and the shoulders, 33%, are the parts of the body that suffer most, and for which they suffer high degrees of pain. This fact is common in the different types of operation, regardless of its specialization. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are common among surgeons. Pathologies developed from the duties involved, are closely related to performance at work.
