Abstract
It is found that one-photon recombination in thin quantum wires in longitudinal electric field in monochromatic photon emission, despite the classical degree of freedom of the electron and hole. It compares favorably with the recombination radiation of quantum dots, first, by the natural directivity and, second, by the possibility of tuning the frequency by varying the field strength. The possibility of using the effect in quantum-wire lasers is discussed.
