Frequency Regulation Market Performance Considering the Complementarity of Wind Park Cluster

Modern power systems with high penetration of renewable energy enrich the frequency regulation resources by offering more new clean wind and solar energy. In this paper, we present a bottom-top design of wind park’s participation in the frequency regulation market considering the complementarity of wind park power outputs. By defining a quantitative complementarity index, we show how the complementarity contributes to the regulation reserve reliability of wind parks and the consistent market performance, and verify the conclusions via numerical analysis.
