Physico-chemical study of the effects of electrolytes and hydrotropes on the clouding development of TX-100 and ceftriaxone sodium drug mixture

•Interaction between ceftriaxone sodium (CTS) and TX-100 was investigated in aq. sodium salts and hydrotropic media.•CP values of CTS + TX-100 system was found as: CPaq.NaSal>CPaq.NaBenz>CPaq.NaCl>CPaq.NaAc>CPaq.Na2SO4.•Different thermodynamic variables were computed and analyzed for drug-surfactant systems.•Enthalpy-entropy compensation was evaluated, and their plots showed a linear relationship.•Findings of this study may be highly useful in different pharmaceutical formulations and surfactant-drug interactions.
