Energy-Efficient Locking Protocol in Virtual Machine Environments.

A huge number of transactions has to be concurrently performed to design and implement current distributed applications. However, each server in a system consumes the large amount of electric energy to perform methods issued by transactions. In this paper, the EE2PL-VM (Energy-Efficient Two-Phase Locking in Virtual Machine environment) protocol is newly proposed to not only serialize conflicting transactions but also reduce the total processing electric energy consumption (PEE) of servers. The evaluation results show the EE2PL-VM protocol can reduce the total PEE of servers compared with the 2PL (Two-Phase Locking) protocol.
