Lamellae of α phase in a metastable β-Ti alloy studied by small-angle x-ray scattering

•SAXS experiment was carried out using single crystals of a metastable β-Ti alloy.•Influence of ω particles on the evolution of α lamellae was characterized.•Orientations of α lamellae were determined using a model of ellipsoidal α.•Elastic energies of α platelets in the β matrix were calculated.•An interesting feature, the Kossel effect, was observed in several SAXS patterns.
