•The syringic acid urea was crystallized and characterized through XRD.•The optimization of cocrystal was computed through DFT/B3LYP with 6–31++G (d,p) basis set.•Theoretical and experimental analysis of vibrational and electronic spectrum were done.•FMO, MEP, mulliken charge, thermodynamic parameters, molecular docking and ADMET were done through computational analysis.•Antibacterial and antifungal analysis were done through disc diffusion assay.
