Abstract

•178 bacterial strains were isolated from white grubs native to Indian Himalayas.•Bacterial community was represented by two phyla: Firmicutes and Actinobacteria.•Bacterial strains were molecularly characterized through 16S rRNA sequencing.•25 cellulolytic strains were selected, Bacillus spp. showed highest cellulolytic index.•These strains are good source for agro-waste management and industrial use.
