Complete mitochondrial genome of the forensically important carrion beetle, Necrodes nigricornis (Coleoptera: Silphidae)

•Necrodes nigricornis is one of the most frequently encountered forensic insects in animal.•cadavers in Korea.•We sequenced and characterized the complete mitogenome of Necrodes nigricornis.•The aim of study is to increase the genomic data pools of the Silphidae, which has forensic importance.•This mitogenome can be an important source for forensic studies including species diagnosis.
