Functionalized MoS2 catalysts for CO2 capture and conversion: a review

Global climate issue is becoming a serious worldwide task; thus, a closed-loop recycling by storage and reutilization of CO2 is essential faced in this century. Among the CO2 capture and reutilization technologies, transition metal disulfides, especially functionalized MoS2 catalysts, have attracted great attention resulting from their remarkably catalytic activities induced by the special layered spacing, multiple phase structures, and edge effects. This review summarizes the synthesis, defect engineering strategies, and principles of capture and conversion of the nanostructured MoS2 catalysts. The morphologies, manipulation, hybridized doping, and catalytical activities of the different synthesizing and modification technologies are compared, incorporating of the reconfiguration of vacancy, doping, layer spacing, and heterostructures. Furthermore, the CO2 capture and conversion technologies of MoS2 catalysts are clarified, involving the theory predict, experimental founding, and reaction procedure of storage, CO2 reduction, photocatalysis, and electrocatalysis. The relationship of hybridized strategies with catalytic performances are also outlined, which are very beneficial for the future development of CO2 storage and efficient conversion into other high-value-added products.
