A Low-Power-Consumption FBG Sensor Interrogator

This paper presents a low-power-consumption fiber grating interrogation system based on Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL). The system exhibits a 3.5 nm tuning range and less than 100 mW power consumption. The advantages of the temperature-free VCSEL interrogation system are fully utilized to form a separate, low-power, miniaturized FBG sensing interrogation system with Wireless sensor network sensor nodes.The practicability and validity of the system are verified by the experimental results of temperature monitoring. It is an effective solution for applications involving few and concentrated monitoring points of temperature and stress.
