摘要
Research suggests that individuals with depression evidence altered brain function within the emotion regulation network. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have also found that heightened threat-related amygdala activity and altered amygdala-prefrontal cortex connectivity are associated with adolescent depression by way of dysregulated emotional reactivity and regulation. However, the majority of neurobiology research has been conducted in high-income countries and with cross-sectional study designs, leaving a gap in research on youth in low-or-middle income countries. The present study examines longitudinal associations between emotion-related brain function and depression symptoms in adolescents from Brazil, a middle-income country (MIC).
