Temperature characteristics of Rb-N2 single-beam magnetometer with different buffer gas pressures

•The demonstration of temperature characteristics of Rb-N2 SERF magnetometer with different buffer gas pressures.•The determination of optimal condition for an alkali-metal vapor cell with given active measurement volume.•As a general optimization model, it can be used to find the optimal condition for an alkali metal vapor cell with different sizes operating in the SERF regime.•This work provides a promising solution for miniaturized atomic magnetometers in parameter characterization optimization and performance improvement.
