Assess the pharmacovigilance reporting of antihypertensive medications: need for our health care society

Abstract
The Current study was focused to identify the level of awareness regarding Pharmacovigilance and its reporting mechanism to the concerned authorities among Medical and Allied Graduates. In Pakistan, There is a gap between patients, Health care providers and Drug regulatory authorities for proper reporting that leads to unseen morbidities and mortalities. The thalidomide tragedy was the best example of Pharmacovigilance that leads to phocomelia. The cross-sectional, qualitative study was conducted for a period of 06 months from March to August 2017. The target population was pharmacy graduates who were working in marketing and medical graduates particularly house officers from district Hyderabad and Jamshoro. A total of 300 samples were recruited via purposive sampling technique and divide in two groups i.e. 150 each. A structured questionnaire was developed after validation that includes open and close ended questions. The finding of the this study revealed clear observation that the samples have little or no idea about how to report ADRs and where to report ADRs. Further both groups of samples have little or no awareness about the role of pharmaceutical companies for detection of adverse drug reactions. Moreover both groups of had denied any documentation/ form that was provided by any regulatory authority. Some Pharmaceutical companies have Pharmacovigilance system but both groups were unaware about the findings that also one of the barrier for proper ADRs reporting. So by this study, it was clear that the reforms will be taken by the government for proper reporting of adverse drug reactions.
