•Cu-doped (100), (110) and (310) faceted α-MnO2 were synthesized for the first time.•The synergistic catalysis of (110) facets, Cu doping, and light was more significant.•The improved electron transfer and Ov via Cu doping facilitated 1O2 generation.•Cu-doped (110) faceted α-MnO2 mineralized 95% of bisphenol A within 30 min.
