摘要
Purpose Coronary stenting to remove plaque and easing blood flow through major arteries is a standard surgical procedure. Methods The present paper utilizes the CAD model of a stent based on the BX-Velocity stent design and analyses the flow parameters resulting after its placement within the artery under different conditions. This stent geometry is placed within a bifurcated artery. A pulsatile blood flow regime is considered along with three different positions (A, B and C) of the stent within the artery. Results The results of the fluid flow analysis show that position B is the most favourable for the placement of the stent. The resultant wall shear stresses (time-averaged) and the wall shear stress gradient magnitudes indicate the possibility of developing neointimal hyperplasia for position B. Conclusions The present study aims to mimic the pulsatile blood flow within a branched artery and the results indicate that the position B of the stent within a bifurcating artery can lead to the best possible outcome.
