The impact of pH on the anaerobic and aerobic metabolism of Tetrasphaera-enriched polyphosphate accumulating organisms
Water Research X(2023)
Abstract
•Higher pH increases tetrasphaera PAOs p release and uptake rate from pH 6.0–8.0.•Tetrasphaera C-uptake, PHA synthesis & glycogen degradation are less pH dependant.•High pH positively impacts the net p removal achieved by tetrasphaera.•Tetrasphaera mainly produces polyhydroxyvalerate (PHV) anaerobically at any pH.•Tetrasphaera & accumulibacter have consistent pH responses, facilitating synergies.
