Characterization the optical properties of biocompatible agarose and doped chitosan thin films and determination the refractive indices using swanepoel envelope method

In this paper, the optical properties of biocompatible agarose and chitosan doped molybdenum complex composite thin films are reported. Thin films were obtained by spin coating of doped chitosan and agarose on soda-lime glass microscope slide. The cluster solution was prepared under mild heating and then a chitosan powder was dissolved in the solution to get 10% w/w doped chitosan. Measurements by optical spectrophotometry were used to investigate the optical constants. Absorption and extinction coefficients of thin films were calculated using transmittance and absorbance data for the wavelength range of (200 nm to 600 nm). These calculations show that both coefficients have decreased sharply with increasing the wavelength. A swanepoel envelope method was used to calculate the refractive index of materials thin films and it is demonstrated to be in the range of (1.458 to 1.567) for doped chitosan and (1.5361 to 1.7115) for agarose in the wavelength range used in this study.
