Abstract
This study aims to redefine multicultural competence within the context of Indonesian higher education utilizing a meta-analytic approach. A systematic review of research articles, published between 2010 and 2022, was conducted to identify relevant studies that examine the multicultural competence of students in Indonesian higher education. By synthesizing findings from existing studies, the research emphasizes the necessity of refining and clarifying the terminology associated with multicultural competence, thereby enhancing students' comprehension of this critical skill set. The meta-analysis underscores the significance of various dimensions of multicultural competence, including cultural awareness, empathy, open-mindedness, effective communication, and adaptability. Furthermore, it reveals gaps and inconsistencies in the literature, highlighting individual, educational and contextual factors. The study emphasizes the importance of developing a shared glossary of terms pertaining to multicultural competence, which can facilitate more efficient curriculum development, teaching strategies, and foster inclusive learning environments. The findings offer valuable insights and recommendations for researchers, educators, and policymakers in Indonesian higher education to advance multicultural competence among diverse student populations.
