Abstract
To obtain a new multicomponent powder with superior ability to inhibit methane explosions, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3), potassium carbonate (K2CO3) and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (NH4H2PO4) were mixed, and a 20 L spherical vessel was used to study the inhibitive effect of the multicomponent powders on methane explosions. The results reveal that the inhibiting effect of the multicomponent powder on methane explosions was greater than that of individual powders, mainly due to the rapid thermal decomposition and consumption of C-containing radicals. At a fixed powder concentration, the explosion pressure, pressure rise rate and flame propagation velocity of methane explosion were less with the multicomponent powder than the individual powders, and radical production and production rate were reduced to a larger degree. The methane explosion flame was more susceptible to the buoyancy effect under multicomponent powder inhibition. The analysis revealed the synergistic inhibition mechanism of the multicomponent powder.
