Ingenious integration of electroluminescent devices with natural triboelectrification for wearable display by using epidermal potential as stimulation bridge
Optical Materials(2023)
Abstract
Portable light emitting devices without the need of an external power sources have attracted a wide range of research hotspots due to their great potential for wearable displays, smart electronics and electronic skins. In this work, a novel single-electrode mode alternating current electroluminescence devices with epidermal potential as another stimulation electrode (namely EPSE-ACEL) allowing for the simultaneous sensing and display of biological information has been presented. The EPSE-ACEL device only consists of a composited emissive layer and a transparent electrode, which can be easily attached to any position on the human body and self-powered by the natural triboelectrification and the static charges on the human body. It is demonstrated that the EPSE-ACEL device can be used in fingerprint display and wireless wearable display. The EPSE-ACEL device is promising in various applications such as human-computer interaction, health-care monitoring, and intelligent wearable equipment.
