Coordination polymers of perylenetetracarboxylate with Cs(I) ions: 3D structures with 2D inorganic layers or triple coordination nets

Two coordination polymers of perylenetetracarboxylate (ptc) with Cs(I) ions were prepared via self-assembly at ambient temperature. Compound 1 [(Cs4(ptc)(H2O)5·nH2O] has a hybrid 3D structure constructed by π···π stacking ptc ligands linking 2D undulating inorganic layers with both edge- and corner-sharing Cs polyhedra. Compound 2 [(H2ED)5Cs2(ptc)3(H2O)10] has a 3D structure via hydrogen-bonded triple 2D coordination nets constructed by ptc linking Cs polyhedra with H2ED as additional cations. The structural diversity was achieved by varying Cs to ptc ratios with the addition of H2ED as the competing cations.
