•Grains are refined into micro-grains due to Laser Shock Peening.•TheSever Plastic Deformation increases the micro-hardness values.•Load is the major influencing factor followed by the sliding distance and the sliding velocity.•Reduction in wear rate is due to Laser Shock Peening.
