•A method is proposed to improve the parallel information processing ability of a VCSEL-based reservoir computing (RC) system.•Both X-polarization component and Y-polarization component of the VCSEL simultaneously carry the information of two tasks.•This proposed scheme has a potential to process three or more tasks at the same time.
