Generating nano-incised graphene kirigami membrane via selective tearing

•Nano-incised GK has great application prospects in separation and purification engineering.•Through a mechanical method named selective tearing, nano-incised GK can be generated.•The optimal boundary conditions to form the ideal nano-incised STGK are reported.•The generated STGK membrane has superior water desalination performance.
